Death Doula vs End-of-Life Doula. What is the Difference?
The terms "death doula" and "end-of-life doula" are essentially interchangeable - they refer to the same role. Both terms describe a non-medical professional who provides companionship, emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals facing death, and their loved ones.
While "death doula" is a more common term, "end-of-life doula" more accurately reflects the scope of their work, which can extend beyond the immediate moment of death to include end-of-life planning and bereavement support.
Death Doulas and EOL Doulas both facilitate communication and increased spiritual and emotional well being for everyone involved in the dying process. Their goal is always to provide compassionate end-of-life care.
